A few years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer.

Don’t worry, I’m fine now. But when you are forced to stare down your own mortality, your relationship with time changes. You stop looking at a clock as just a utility. You start seeing it as a currency. It becomes precious.

That battle taught me to appreciate the artistry of time. It led me to watches.

I didn’t start flipping watches just to make a quick buck. I started because I was fascinated by the hunt. I loved the idea of finding something rare, understanding its mechanical artistry, and realizing that the market had undervalued it. I loved the “arbitrage,” the gap between what a watch was selling for and what it was actually worth.

But my appreciation for value came from a much darker place than just a hobby.

Years before the cancer diagnosis, I was fighting a different battle: Debt.

I struggled. I drowned in the system. I didn’t just “budget” my way out; I hit rock bottom and filed for bankruptcy. It was humbling. But it lit a fire in me. I rebuilt my life from zero. I started a non-profit to help other people navigate that same darkness and find their own fresh start.

I climbed my way back up. I built the wealth I needed to finally afford the luxury things that had always felt completely out of reach: the Rolexes, the Audemars Piguets, and the Pateks of the world.
